The Hive
The Inaugural HC Summit
August might have been our best month yet at The HC. We welcomed new members, launched fresh content, and hosted our very first in-person HC Summit. Until now, most of our cofounders only knew each other online, so we brought everyone to Nashville for a weekend of connection, creation, and collaboration. We left with a stronger sense of mission, a bigger vision for changing the culture of medicine, and yes… plenty of fun along the way.

Here at the HC, we truly believe that happier physicians make better physicians. We fully recognize that there are innumerable factors that play into the current culture of medicine - leading to burnout, disillusionment, and erosion of trust in the very institution of medicine and medical training. We are not simply here to say, Be Happier. We are here to build a movement and create a vision for a better future in medicine. But that won’t happen overnight. So while that train continues to roll on (and trust us, we’re shoveling coal night and day behind the scenes), we also believe in creating platforms for medical professionals to simply have fun and connect with likeminded individuals.

Love On Call Webinar
Last week we hosted our first webinar as a Collective - Love On Call. We brought together physicians and spouses to discuss real stories of building relationships in the midst of medicine. Being in medicine means long hours, high stakes, and endless demands - but what does that mean for love, marriage, and family life? Thank you to the almost 600 people that attended, we had a blast! If you missed it, you can still watch on the HC Youtube channel.
EX VIVO
Medicine is what happens in vivo. But this is what happens after.
The new interdisciplinary art magazine from the Hippocratic Collective. We’re publishing work by residents, fellows and medical students at the intersection of medicine, art, and lived experience.
We’re looking for work that is sharp, honest, and original. Visual art, essays, poetry, photography, comics, memoir fragments, anatomical sketches, mixed media - if it resonates with life inside or after medicine, it belongs here.
We have extended our submission window through September. So if you, or someone you know, is interested, please click the link below and submit your application today.

Another Hemisphere
By Rotem Kimia, MD
I think of how many of them disappeared behind their own eyes. And how normal it was to watch them go. I couldn’t bear to be another one of the gone. So I boarded a plane, crossing hemispheres and seasons, holding only this hope.
How I Changed Medical Specialties
By Olivia Perez, MD
Switching residencies is quite common but is seldom spoken about publicly. I had several mentors and fellow residents who also made the switch who guided me along the way. But I realize that not everyone has access to this network of career-switchers.
A Surgeon’s Guide To Dating
By Shreya Sharma, MD
High-achieving women are familiar with facing challenges, and pursue them without hesitation. However, the reality is that dating should be the opposite of this. There is no challenge that needs to be pursued - no nosebleed that we must stop.
