Collective Hive July 2025

The Hive

Rooftops, Book Drops, and a New Era of Medical Media

It’s wild to think we’re only two months into the Hippocratic Collective, because June felt like a turning point.

We’ve gone from a bold idea to a bold reality: live events, a book release, new columns, webinars, new members…all fueled by a growing community of medical creatives who are showing up, speaking out, and making this movement real.

Here’s what went down this past month:

  • Our first in-person event at the Envoy Rooftop in Boston

  • So many new members, authors, guests, and even our first interns!

  • Hundreds of DM’s (we know these conversations can be tricky to have out in public, but we love hearing from each one of you)

A Rooftop Night to Remember

The Hippocratic Hour | Boston, MA

On June 14, we hosted our first in-person event: a rooftop gathering of medical students, residents, and attendings in the heart of Boston. It was a little rainy, chaotic, and perfect. We celebrated the release of our own, Tyler Beauchamp’s book, Freeze Frame, and had an absolute blast. Shout out to PearsonRavitz for sponsoring the event and making it all happen.

We’re calling it the Hippocratic Hour, and it won’t be the last. Keep an eye out for the next one in your city.

Freeze Frame Is Here

Speaking of Freeze Frame, Tyler Beauchamp, MD officially launched his debut YA novel, Freeze Frame, a coming-of-age story about grief, art, and finding your voice.

You can grab a copy here, and follow along as Tyler continues to grow as an artist and author. We’ve even heard there’s another series in the works…

Ask Iya

By Iya Agha, DO

Have you ever wondered why people are so afraid to talk about the things that make them nervous in medicine? I’ve never understood the need to “gatekeep” our fears. Our fears are the very thing that propel us forward. A healthy fear has always kept me going. Fear helps me see the way forward, towards my goals in medicine.

‘Progress Note’ Spotlight

The Metamorphosis

By Sacha McBain, PhD

Gregor’s first and overriding concern is not his shocking transformation, but his inability to get out of bed and go to work. This culminates in his frantic attempts to convince his manager while locked in his bedroom that he is still fit for the job, all while trying to hide the fact that he has, well, become a gigantic bug. The scene would be absurdly comical if it did not so accurately capture the lengths to which people living with chronic illness often push themselves to meet society’s expectations of normality and productivity.

Artist In Residence

The ballots are in, and our next Artist in Residence has officially been chosen! We are still making a few arrangements behind the scenes before the big announcement, but we could not be more excited. This does mean that submissions for this summer/fall AiR are closed, but our team continues to review incoming work as future opportunities arise. If you'd like to share your portfolio with us, we’d love to see it.

Perhaps even more exciting though, we were overwhelmed by the quantity and quality of our Artist in Residence submissions. And we think it would be a shame not to highlight as many of these incredible artists as we can. So we are cooking up the next best thing to platform incredible art…stay tuned! We will be announcing more about this new program via social media shortly.
